"This is a picture full of different textures - the wooden fence, the rocks, the fabric, the black sand. The challenge here was to maintain excellent detail in the shadow areas, whilst accentuating the various textures. I wanted the eye to be drawn to the leading rock, whilst the whole picture was a delicate balancing act of tonal values."
